[Writer’s Quote Wednesday] Magic

“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”

-Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Some people don’t believe magic exists, but magic, in my opinion, is all around us.

Whether you’re a writer, an artist, or a musician, you still have the power to create something magnificent and life-changing out of simple words, colors, and sounds. You have the power to move hearts and change minds, to set fire to dormant memories and touch someone’s very soul, all with a single story, song, or tragic painting. And if that’s not magic, then what is?

What kind of magician are you?

Written for Writer’s Quote Wednesday, with the prompt of the magic of words.

  1. I am a world-making butterfly magician.

I make worlds inside my head (or sometimes I just play in the worlds created by others), and every day I visit them, like a butterfly visiting myriad flowers to drink their sweet, sweet nectar. Cross-pollination of worlds has so far proved largely unsuccessful, but I live in hope.

I also swear I don’t do drugs, and I haven’t had a single drink today (yet).

Yay for a very thought-provoking quote from you! *goes to get a drink*

    1. World-making butterfly magician. I love it! That’s one I haven’t heard yet. I like the idea of cross-pollination of worlds. It’s basically liking having crossovers between fandoms, and I’m always on board with a good crossover!

  2. While I was reading this the thing that came to mind as ‘magic’ is the ability of an artist to put on canvas the true likeness of the images he sees. I often wonder what it is in their brain that blessed them with such ability. Then again, they probably think the same of those with the abiltiy to spin a yarn with words, LOL, it’s all magic I suppose. A lovely quote.

    1. I know exactly what you mean! And as someone whose artistic ability doesn’t extend past stick figures, I’m constantly in awe of people who can transform a blank canvas into a stunning colorful and sometimes unbelievably realistic work of art. Like you said, they probably wonder the same of writers!

  3. Aye to that, Albus Dumbledore! And I couldn’t agree more with you, Jade. Magic is definitely all around us- in a stroke of a paintbrush, in a strum of a guitar, in a hum, and even in a single period.

Hmm.. I’d like to think I’m a poetic magician. ๐Ÿ˜€ โค

    1. Ahhh, I see what you did there with the coffee reference, Koko ๐Ÿ˜‰ Clever! I believe the same. There is magic in everything, as long as we choose to see it.

      1. Indeed, magic is everywhere…like today…the wind is blowing though the trees, ever so gently and sweeping, and if I listen I can hear the magic of the ocean coming through. This day is truly a beautiful one. The sun is out and the sky is blue and I have the sound of the ocean. Magical! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I love this quote! Everyone has a story, a point of view, a voice – whether the medium is words, sculpture, mathematics, painting, music, I love the challenge to use your voice. Thank you for the inspiration.

    1. Thanks!! I agree, everyone has a story and I believe everyone’s story is important. And you never know who’s listening and who might be getting inspired by your story.
