The red and gold leaves crinkled under her talons. Red and gold…that made her think of Gryffindor, which made her think of Harry. Where was he?
Her wings were sore and her claws ached. Ever since the flash of green light separated her from him, she’d been searching all over for her Harry. Surely, he was looking for her too? Why hadn’t he found her yet?
“There you are.”
Her amber eyes swiveled to meet a pair of hazel ones. Harry! Well, it was about time. She stretched out her feathers as she landed gracefully on his outstretched arm. Now that she was close to his face, she noticed how much he had aged. Wait, didn’t Harry have green eyes?
“I think you’ve earned a nice, long rest, Hedwig.” The red-haired woman next to her Harry whispered. Oh, Harry’s eyes! There you are.
“Thank you for watching over our Harry. Now, we’ll take care of you, Hedwig.”
With her head comfortably tucked under her wing, Hedwig let out a happy chirp and slept.

Hedwig’s death absolutely tore my heart out in the books, and I just needed to finally give her a happy ending. *sobs into tissues*.
You just made me tear up a bit, well done. (Yay)

What a beautiful read and here`s me just starting to read the Harry Potter books for the first time after having watched the films many times over! I thought it would be a very fall thing to do…

Oh gosh, I envy you! I would give so much to be able to read the Harry Potter series over without knowing what’s going to happen. There’s so much the movies change from the books so I think you’ll still be very pleasantly surprised. I hope you enjoy the books and feel free to pop by if you ever need to fangirl about Harry Potter. I’m always up for that ;D

I’m almost ready to start the second book and yes, there is so much more to linger over and I’m loving it!

Ahh, that’s awesome! Glad you’re enjoying it! I love the innocence in the first few books (Prisoner of Azkaban is one of my favorites <3).

Lovely, Jade. 🙂 I remember reading lots of Sirius is met by James and Lily in the afterlife fics after ‘Order of the Phoenix’. Character deaths just need a final, happy scene.

I agree completely. I need to know these characters are at least happy in their afterlife lol Thanks for reading Louise 🙂

I’ve not read Harry Potter, so I have no clue what is happening, but it seems well written! 🙂

Aww lol! So in a nutshell: Hedwig is Harry Potter’s owl, and she dies in the last book of the series. In this story, she wanders in the afterlife and meets Harry’s parents (who are also dead).
I’m touched you read & commented even though you had no idea what’s going in the story! Thank you kindly, Iain ^_^

Oh dear, oh dear… Headwig. tears
It’s heartbreaking but my heart is a bit at ease knowing that Hedwig found the Potters in the afterlife. ❤
Just, please, let there be no Valdermort there!

I don’t think Voldemort’s afterlife will be the same as the Potters or Hedwig. I’m glad I could put your heart at ease ❤ Thanks for reading and commenting, Maria.

some characters just have our hearts from the start, Hedwig rightfully deserves an alternate ending….lovely job Jade. To think she searched far and wide to find him, still devoted to Harry and the memory of his eyes, thats the connection for me, bittersweet end done nicely.

Hedwig really did have my heart from the beginning, and it just broke me when J.K.Rowling decided to kill her off. Granted, a lot of the deaths in the last Harry Potter book were very hard 😦

Yes some deaths made me ask WHY? But that’s the mark of a good writer when we moan a beloved character.

Loved that you brought Hedwig in to give her a happy ending! Great story, Jade, as always! (I have to admit though, I have not read the books or watched the movies. It’s on my todo list).

Well that one stabbed me right in the gut. I’m still not over this death. Nonetheless, I love the idea of Hedwig finding new kinship with the rest of Harry’s departed family.
