In all my years of living in New York, I have never stepped foot in Staten Island.
Queens? I know it like the back of my hand.
Brooklyn? Bronx? Sure.
But Staten Island? That place across the water where no subway lines connect to? Uh…brain does not compute.
Cue the Staten Island Ferry!
Me: So how much is the ferry ticket? Like $10?
Friend: Pfft, Jade, please. Like I would take the ferry if I had to pay for it.
Me: Wait, it’s free?
Friend: *imitates mind exploding* You check the ferry’s website for the departure times and you just wait in the terminal for it to come.
We chose to stand on the back deck of the ferry since it was a gorgeous day, and were soon joined by a little furry friend.
All the other seagulls were flying above us, as seagulls do, but this particular fellow inherited the laziness gene and chose to ride the ferry with us, which of course, makes him my favorite. Us lazy beings have to stick together!
My feet are officially touching Staten Island concrete, guys!
And now, my favorite photo I took this day: the featured image, taken from the back of the Staten Island Ferry as we leave Manhattan.
Sometimes, you need a new perspective to remind you of what’s important.
As Samwise the Brave said,
“Folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding onto something—That there’s some good in this world…and it’s worth fighting for.”

Hanging Out With Life is a little something new to my blog.
Because every fangirl needs to step away from the computer and into the sun – AHH IT BLINDS US! – or so they say.
