“I have never once looked in the mirror
and said, ‘I love you.’
I think it’s long overdue.”
I have never once looked in the mirror and said, “I love you.” Perhaps I was afraid I didn’t deserve it. Or maybe there just was no point. But there is. And the more I think about it, the more I’ve realized that I do. I do love myself. After everything my body and mind did to protect me and keep the good alive — along with the hope. I survived. That is something worth loving — especially since that person is me.
— Sarah Doughty —
This week for Writer’s Quote Wednesday, I’d like to shine the spotlight on one of our own WordPress bloggers and poets, the courageous and talented Sarah Doughty. Sarah was one of the first people I followed since I started blogging so many years ago and her writing has remained one of the constants during my blogging journey so many years later.
If I were to compile a list of her poems I love and consider my favorites, the list would be nearly endless. Today, I’d like to share one of her poems that undoubtedly would be a part of that list, and I ask you: have you told yourself today, “I love you”?
