[Poetry] New Year Musings

Laughter rings in one corner
Of card games and revelry,
In another corner, gossip
Is exchanged with cups of tea.

Golden mandarins are piled
Next to plates of unfinished food,
And incense slowly burns,
Trailing serenity through the room.

Yet, I cannot help but wonder
As a new year settles on me,
Will this be the year I discover
Who I am meant to be?

Happy Lunar New Year 2020, everyone! 2020 is the Year of the Rat and as the Rat is the first animal of the zodiac, starting the 12-year cycle all over again, that makes 2020 a true year of new beginnings.

With that in mind, I hope 2020 is the year you finally tell yourself “no more excuses” and finish that project, tackle that goal, and take the first step towards a healthier, happier you.

  1. love the way this poem of yours winds its way around my heart, a time of being with family, counting blessings and of course gossiping, and yes over tea. and in the corner I see a brave young woman contemplating life and what it will deliver, she sits proud and confident she will be able to handle it all. one of my favourites from you Jade, Gong Xi Fa Cai!
