A yearly checking-in with the world and with myself…during the month when it all began.
Originally, these posts were two separate categories and I aimed to check in every January and October…but that’s a lot of work, guys. So, in 2021, I decided to combine the categories and posts! I know, I’m a lazy genius.
It’s October again! Okay, technically, it’s the middle of October now, but in my defense, there is a pandemic going on, so time’s been extra-wacky lately.
Still, we are officially in my favorite month of the year, a month that marks the start of everything I love: warm scarves, hot tea, leather jackets, combat boots, golden leaves, longer nights, and…my birthday!
So, I meant to post this in January—you know, for the new year—but now it’s April, I haven’t left my apartment in two and a half weeks, and I’ve run out of excuses. I’ve been procrastinating on this post because after last year’s Re-Introduction post, I hoped I would be further in my writing career instead of…in exactly the same place. At times, it’s felt like I’ve wasted a year of my life, but my best friends would argue (and have argued, many times) that this past year has been a year of personal growth and milestones.

From Halloween and New York Comic Con preparations to studying for midterms and digging out scarves, October means a lot of things to a lot of people. For me, October is the month of new beginnings—it is to me what January is to most people.
My year starts in October because this is my birthday month. This was the month I was born, the month I started life, and so every year, this is the month I reflect on how I have lived, make my resolutions for a happier, healthier life, and then start again. Read More »
