Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
— Langston Hughes —
“Maybe that’s all we were. Dreamers.
And we knew the end was coming. Our end.”
Maybe that’s all we were. Dreamers. And somewhere, deep down, we knew the day would come that we would wake up and all of what we shared would be behind us. It was something we knew hovered on the horizon, but like any other mirage, we didn’t realize how close it was after all. And once it’s all said and done, the only thing that remains is memories. I have to admit, I wasn’t ready for reality to set in. I wasn’t ready for the end. Our end. But here we are, going our separate ways. I couldn’t help but wonder if we took a wrong turn somewhere. Nevertheless, the memories are all I have to hold on to.

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.
Remember not to compare yourself to strangers on the internet.
Remember not to let the numbers—of likes, of followers, of zeros on a check—make you feel like you are less than, because you are not. You are absolutely enough.
Remember that J.K. Rowling used to be a single mother, depressed and trying to survive on welfare benefits, while the Harry Potter series was rejected by 12 different publishers.
“There is no magic cure, no making it all go away forever. There are only small steps upward; an easier day, an unexpected laugh, a mirror that doesn’t matter anymore.”

A single teardrop fell from the sky.
It tumbled through the air.
It fell onto my hand and surprised me,
When it stayed quite still there.
I peeked into the teardrop
And gasped at what I saw,
Beautiful tales of suffering and dreams,
Of life and all its flaws. Continue reading “[Poetry] A Single Teardrop”
Let Dreams grow,
For like life,
They flourish with care
And decay with strife.
Fuel them with Hope
You’ll never be lost,
At whatever cost,
Like winter’s chilly rain, for you I weep,
To be with you is but an endless wait,
Somehow for you I have fallen so deep,
Your mere presence to me intoxicates.
I make a wish upon a fleeting star,
Eyes closed, I can almost feel your embrace,
Reality between us, a distance so far,
I try to trace the smooth lines of your face.
Like summer’s heat, you burn bright in my eyes,
With a gaze so intense you freeze me cold,
I call out to you but hear no reply,
Arms stretched out, I yearn to hold.
I cannot touch misty wisps of steam,
And you are nothing more than just a dream.
