He was irresistible to me
Because he tasted of freedom and I
Was a dove with broken wings.

On the bathroom floor,
Glass shard in hand,
It catches the light,
Is this the end?
And the tears, they
Bounce off the glass.
Shutting my eyes, I’ll
Just make this fast.
Sometimes life gets in the way,
Sometimes it’s just me.
Sometimes I blink
—and in the blink of an eye—
A day fades to many.
Loud voices that quiet to whispers,
Vivid hues that dull to grey,
And always a sense of something missing
Something lost and gone astray.
This poem
Is for the child
Sprinting through the crimson streets
Tripping over the last breaths
Of his father—
For the mother
Protecting her babies’ ears
From the piercing shrieks that echo
Long after the ashes settle—
A flickering candle still casts light.
A lonesome star still shines at night.
“And I will fight with all my might,
For I am resilient,” whispered my heart.
“All I need is a place to start.“

And what if someone was out there with a hole inside their chest they didn’t know how to fill, their only solution to lie in the dark and wait for the emptiness to end, as I still do from time to time?
What if I could help?”
